Chennai Air Customs has seized four postal parcels having 4180 tablets containing psychotropic substance and three parcels of ganja at Foreign Post Office, Chennai.In first case, two registered parcel booked from Ethiraj salai (Chennai) to USA by a Delhi based person. The parcel which was declared as documents on examination was found to contain 1980 Tramadol Hydrochloride Tablets (100mg).
In another case, two parcels booked from Chetpet (Chennai) to USA by a Delhi based person was examined on suspicion. The parcel contained 1200 tablets of Zolpidem Tartrate (IP 10 mg), and 1000 tablets of Tramadol Hydrochloride tablets (100mg).Tramadol Hydrochloride Tablets and Zolpidem Tartrate (IP 10 mg) falls in category of Psychotropic Substances as mentioned in the schedule to NDPS Act, 1985, export of which are prohibited without any export authorisation issued by competent authority under rule 53 of NDPS Act, 1985.Further, In third case, 194 gms of Ganja from three postal Parcels which have arrived from USA and Canada were seized.
Totally, 4180 tablets containing Psychotropic substance and 194 grams of ganja were seized from seven postal parcels under NDPS Act, 1985, read with Customs Act,1962.Further investigation is in progress.This is a stated press release issued by the Pr.
