INDIAN AIR FORCE DISTRIBUTES CAPS KNITTED BY SANGINIS DURING KNITTATHON

Secunderabad: On its 62nd anniversary, the Air Force Wives Welfare Association (AFWWA) created a Guinness World Record for the largest display of knitted hats or caps, when it displayed 41,541 knitted woolen caps at New Delhi during the ‘Knittathon’, activity conducted by the AFWWA. The event was attended by Union Ministers Rajnath Singh and Smriti Irani. The certificate read, “The largest display of knitted hats/caps was achieved by the Air Force Wives Welfare Association in New Delhi, India on 15th October 2022.” The campaign aimed to help the homeless and underprivileged in the winter by knitting woolen caps for them. On 29 October 2022, Mrs. B Komala, President AFWWA (Local), Air Force Academy, Dundigal distributed some of these caps, among the underprivileged, along with Sanginis from the Academy.

The drive was conducted at three places in Hyderabad, namely, Sai Seva Sang, Moosapet, Missionaries of Charity, New Bhoiguda, and Seagram, Annaram. The distribution drive happening pan India will be a record in itself and will be recognized by the Limca Book of Records. Not only will it help the underprivileged to tackle the harsh winters, but, such initiatives also empower the participating women and shows the strong commitment of the Indian Air Force families to serve the local community.
