Yoga Mahotsav to commemorate 25 days countdown to the International Day of Yoga to be held in Hyderabad on 27th May

Union Minister Shri G Kishan Reddy exhorts all citizens to participate and showcase our rich heritage of Yoga to the world 21st May 2023, Hyderabad

To mark the 25-day countdown to International Day of Yoga 2023, the Morarji Desai National Institute of Yoga (MDNIY) under the Ministry of Ayush, Government of India, is hosting a grand Yoga Mahotsav at Parade Ground, Secunderabad. The event will take place on May 27th, at 5.30 AM. Union Minister for Tourism, Culture and DoNER G. Kishan Reddy addressed the media in Hyderabad today and said that in the run-up to the International day of Yoga on 21st June, various events are being organised to encourage citizens to not only adopt Yoga in their personal life, but also to showcase to the world the rich heritage of Yoga of our country. He said at the initiative of Hon’ble Prime Minister, a significant milestone was achieved in 2014 when the United Nations General Assembly declared June 21st as the International Day of Yoga.

Mr. Kishan Reddy called the practice of Yoga as the biggest public health programme ever undertaken. The Union Minister Kishan Reddy, informed that the Hon’ble Governor of Telangana Dr. Tamilisai Soundararajan, Hon’ble Chief Minister and Health and Finance Minister of State of Telangana have been invited to grace the occasion. Several Central Ministers including Shri. Sarbananda Sonowal. Anurag Singh Thakur are expected to participate in the ‘Yog Mahotsav’ event. More than 20, 000 Yoga enthusiasts along with celebrities, sportspersons and senior officials from the State and Union are likely to participate in the event.

Dr. IV Basavareddi, Director of MDNIY, said that in collaboration with various stakeholders, the Ministry of Ayush has initiated a 100-day countdown programme to promote yoga in 100 different locations across India. The programme commenced on March 13, 2023, and is already underway. As part of this initiative, events have been organized earlier in New Delhi, Dibrugarh and Jaipur at the 100-day, 75-day, and 50-day mark respectively, leading up to International Day of Yoga (IDY) 2023. The International Day of Yoga has become an important event celebrated both nationally and globally, generating increasing enthusiasm each year. It serves as a benchmark occasion in promoting the practice of yoga worldwide.
