Hyderabad, July 4: Minister for Labour, Employment, Training, Factories, Mines & Geology, Dr. G. Vivek Venkatswamy, said that meaningful judicial reforms are essential to further strengthen the justice delivery system in a democratic country. He said that democratic values can flourish only when both the government and the judiciary function effectively within their respective constitutional domains while maintaining a healthy institutional balance.

The Minister was addressing the National Legal Conclave organised by the Indian Youth Congress at FAPCCI in Hyderabad on Saturday. TPCC President and MLC Mahesh Kumar Goud, Transport Minister Ponnam Prabhakar, All India Mahila Congress President Alka Lamba, Indian Youth Congress National President Uday Bhanu Chib, Telangana Youth Congress President Jakkidi Shivacharan Reddy, along with several other leaders, attended the event.

The conclave brought together advocates, law students, and Youth Congress leaders from across the country to deliberate on constitutional values, strengthening the judiciary, safeguarding democracy, and other contemporary legal issues.

Addressing the gathering, Dr. Vivek Venkatswamy said that reforms have been introduced over time in various sectors, including politics and the media, and stressed that similar discussions should take place on necessary reforms within the judiciary. He observed that governments tend to become stronger when judicial institutions are weak, making it imperative to maintain a proper balance between the executive and the judiciary. He urged participants to engage in meaningful discussions and put forward recommendations that would further strengthen the judicial system.

Recalling the role of lawyers in India’s freedom struggle, the Minister said the legal fraternity played a pivotal role in the independence movement led by the Indian National Congress. Many lawyers successfully represented freedom fighters in courts and made significant contributions to the national movement, he noted.
He further said that the legal profession enables practitioners to examine issues from both supporting and opposing perspectives, thereby developing a balanced and comprehensive understanding of societal challenges.

Encouraging young advocates to pursue continuous learning, Dr. Vivek advised them to regularly observe court proceedings, deepen their understanding of legal principles, and study a wide range of case laws to build a strong professional foundation. He urged them to make the best use of platforms such as the National Legal Conclave to enhance their knowledge and emerge as accomplished legal professionals.
