MONTH-LONG ACTIVITIES BY NYKS AND NSS AS PART OF ‘CLEAN INDIA PROGRAM’

Hyderabad: A month long activities are being undertaken by the Nehru Yuva Kendra Sangathan (NYKS) and the National Service Scheme (NSS) as a part of Clean India Campaign in the Country. The campaign is a part of ‘Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav’ to commemorate 75years of India’s Independence. Addressing a Press Conference here today, Shri Anshuman Prasad Das, State Director, Nehru Yuva Kendra Sangathan said as part of nation-wide drive, activities under Clean India programme are being taken up in all 33 districts till end of this month involving NYK and NSS volunteers in coordination with district administration. Special campaign for collection of waste plastic materials at village and district level, cleanliness drives at historical monuments, heritage sites, schools and panchayat buildings through voluntary work. Explaining about the schedule of NYK month-long activities, Shri Das said from 1-10th October cleanliness drive will be taken up at Railway and Bus stations, from 11th to 20th at educational institutions, public parks and historical monuments and awareness activities on cleanliness will be taken up from 21st to 31st October as part of this programme.

Speaking on the occasion, ShirR. Saida Naik, NSS Youth Officer, said a total of 1,39,800 volunteers in 21 universities are being involved in the Clean India programme in the state. In Telangana NSS has adopted 1391 villages in which a total of 354 KGs of single use plastic was collected by 21,154 volunteers in the last one week, he informed.

Smt. Shruti Patil, Director PIB &ROB, said that the Government of India hadlaunched the ‘Clean India’program on 1st October aiming at creating awareness on cleanliness as a part of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav to commemorate 75years of India’s Independence. Department of Youth Affairs is the focal Ministry of theClean India Programmeto mobilize public opinion and ensure involvement of citizens to participate voluntarily in this nationwide drive of waste collection and their disposal, she said. Ms. Khusbhu Gupta, District NYK Coordinator, Hyderabad, Shri K.C. Reddy, Youth Assistant, NSS were also present at the press conference.
