Release of Picture Post Cards on Golconda Fort on the occasion of World Tourism Day

On the occasion of World Tourism Day today, Hyderabad City Postal Division released a Permanent Pictorial Cancellation and a set of 05 Picture Post Cards on Golconda Fort at Golconda Fort, Hyderabad. World Tourism Day, celebrated every year on 27th September, is the global observance day promoting awareness of Tourism social, cultural, political and economic value and the contribution that the sector can make towards reaching the Sustainable Development Goals, said a press release issued here.

Golconda Fort is a heritage monument built by the Kakatiyas and brought to prominence by the Qutb Shahi dynasty and then by the Nizams. It is being protected by the Archaeological Survey of India. Permanent Pictorial Cancellation is a Postmark, which shows replica/photo /design or a picture highlighting a tourist, religious, historical or an important place of thing. Thus Pictorial Cancellations give wide publicity mainly to places of historical, cultural and tourist interest. They are provided at the post offices which are located near such significant places which are of national importance and tourist attraction. Hence, an effort is made to present such Permanent Pictorial Cancellation on glorious Golconda Fort.          

Picture Post cards generally depict the beauty of the place through a picture. It may also show a famous place, historical place, cultural festival etc.  Generally, Picture Post cards are sent for inviting a person to visit the location by exhibiting the natural beauty through picture.  This release of picture post cards not only proffers international importance but also act as a special purpose vehicle in promotion of rich culture, heritage and tourism of a place. The set contains 05 Picture Post cards of Citadel, Clapping Portico, Aslah Khana, Darbar Hall and Bhagmathi Palace of Golconda Fort. In order to glorify the fort and its rich cultural heritage, Telangana Postal Circle released Picture Post cards on World Tourism Day which will motivate the people to use Post Cards and to promote cultural Heritage and Tourism.

This release of Picture Post Cards and a Permanent Pictorial Cancellation on Golconda Fort will signify the prominence of World Tourism Day and heritage of Golconda Fort. Speaking on the occasion, Shri S. Rajendra Kumar, Chief Postmaster General, Telangana Circle said, “Tourism industry has been worst affected in the past 1.5 year and there’s a need for revival.What we are doing today is one step towards this direction.when tourists visit places, apart from taking digital photos they would like to have some emotional connect with the place. PPC is one such thing that they can purchase and send to their dear ones. But what is lacking is quality pictures and that is what we are trying to provide.

Permanent pictorial cancellation will be available from tomorrow at Golconda Post office. We will try to make some arrangement to help tourists post cards from fort itself. we have planned some more cancellations, very soon a cancellation on buddha statue will be available at Himayathnagar post office. On this Occasion, Ms. Smitha S Kumar, Superintending Archaeologist for the state of Telangana said, It’s a rare and great occasion to be a part of. My childhood has been deeply connected with postcards. They help make our feelings travel to different places without actually travelling ourselves. As custodians of the past it gives me immense pleasure to revive this habit of posting cards especially with such beautiful pictures of Golconda fort.
