Our scientists made India proud by developing indigenous vaccine: Governor Tamilisai Soundararajan
Hyderabad: Governor Dr. Tamilisai Soundararajan on Monday said that our scientists made our country proud by developing indigenous vaccine.“Our scientists and vaccine makers helped the country save millions of lives by enabling the world’s largest vaccination drive,” she said.
The Governor was speaking at an interaction programme of the national media delegates covering health beat organised by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare at the Raj Bhavan, here.
The Governor said that it was not the time to relax; we must continue our intensive vaccination drive to achieve total coverage of all eligible people in the country. “Vaccination saved millions of lives and our country emerged as a classic global case study for its tremendous success in vaccination and fight against the pandemic,” she added.
Responding to queries from the national media delegates, Dr. Tamilisai Soundararajan said that strengthening the medical infrastructure at the tertiary level in rural areas was the issue close to her heart.Referring to the preparedness to face the future challenges, the Governor emphasised on the need for greater research by the doctors and the scientific fraternity to help the country fight the pandemic better. Asked about her suggestions for the welfare of the tribals, Dr. Tamilisai Soundararajan underlined the importance of education besides improving the infrastructure and livelihood facilities for the tribal people. “Especially, health of the tribal women and pregnant women must be taken care of with special focus on preventing anaemia,” she added. The Governor also highlighted the role of media in our country’s fight against the pandemic and for creating awareness on various health related issues and preventive measures during the pandemic.
A total of 25 delegates from different media organisations from Delhi are part of the delegation sponsored by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.PIB Additional Director General S G Ravindra, Deputy Director (media) of the Health and Family Welfare Ankur Lahotia and other senior officials accompanied the delegation.
Secretary to Governor K. Surendra Mohan, Joint Secretaries and other senior officials were present. Earlier, the delegation from New Delhi visited Bharat Biotech and National Institute of Nutrition.
