Union Minister of State for Information & Broadcasting and Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying Dr L Murugan has requested External Affairs Minister Dr S Jaishankar to take steps to secure immediate release of 23 fishermen from Tamil Nadu and their boats from the custody of Sri Lankan Navy.
In his letter, Dr L Murugan said he today received a memorandum from 66 fishermen villages of Nagapattinam, Karaikal and Mayiladuthurai, apprising him the matter of detention/arrest of 23 fishermen by Sri Lankan Navy and seeking their immediate release. He requested External Affairs Minister Dr S Jaishankar’s urgent help for safe and timely release of 23 fishermen along with two boats. Dr L Murugan also assured the delegation for all possible help from his side for early release of fishermen.
