Mobile Anganwadi Services to Reach Children of Migrant Workers
Progressive initiative to deliver nutrition, healthcare and early education at workers’ doorsteps; More Mobile Anganwadi vehicles if pilot succeeds: Minister Dr. G. Vivek Venkatswamy
Hyderabad, July 7: Labour, Employment, Training, Factories, Mines & Geology Minister Dr. G. Vivek Venkatswamy on Tuesday said that the Telangana Government has launched Mobile Anganwadi Centres to ensure that children of migrant workers receive uninterrupted access to nutrition, healthcare and pre-school education, regardless of their families’ frequent relocation in search of livelihood.
The Minister, along with Women and Child Welfare Minister Seethakka, flagged off the first Mobile Anganwadi vehicle at the MCR HRD Institute in Hyderabad. Developed by the Department of Women and Child Welfare with support from the Labour Department, the vehicle will initially provide Anganwadi services at Indiramma Colony in Medchal–Malkajgiri district.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Vivek Venkatswamy said Anganwadi centres have played a pivotal role in promoting the healthy growth and holistic development of millions of children across the country. He described the Mobile Anganwadi initiative as a progressive and inclusive step that would ensure government welfare services reach children living in labour settlements and other underserved areas.
“Minister Seethakka’s vision of taking Anganwadi services directly to children who need them the most is highly commendable. No child should be deprived of essential nutrition, healthcare and early education simply because their parents migrate for work,” the Minister said.
Dr. Vivek Venkatswamy noted that migrant workers often move from one place to another, making it difficult for their children to access regular Anganwadi services. By bringing these services directly to migrant habitations, the Mobile Anganwadi programme will bridge this gap and improve the wellbeing and early learning of vulnerable children.
He urged migrant workers to make full use of the facility and said that if the pilot project proves successful, the government would expand the initiative by deploying more Mobile Anganwadi vehicles across Telangana.
“The welfare of workers cannot be limited to employment and wages alone. It must also include the health, education and future of their children. The Labour Department will extend complete support to the Women and Child Welfare Department in implementing such people-centric welfare programmes,” he added.
Addressing the gathering, Minister Seethakka said many children living in areas without Anganwadi centres—particularly those from migrant worker families who move to cities like Hyderabad in search of employment—are deprived of vital services such as nutrition, healthcare and pre-school education.
She said the Mobile Anganwadi initiative has been introduced with the objective of ensuring that every child, irrespective of where they live, has access to essential government welfare services, reaffirming the government’s commitment to inclusive child development.
