VIDYANJALI SCHOOL VOLUNTEER PROGRAMME: PARTNER WITH GOVERNMENT SCHOOLS BY INDIAN ARMY

In consonance with the aim stipulated under the Vidyanjali Scheme of strengthening infrastructure, facilities and improving quality of education in government and government aided schools, the Southern Command of Indian Army launched an outreach program with selected schools of Southern India.

In continuation with the ‘Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav’ celebrations commemorating 75 years of India’s Independence, 75 Schools were selected wherein voluntary activities were carried out. Students and faculty members of 30 Army Public Schools reached out to the nominated schools and carried out a wide range of activities to include provision of books, stationery, reading material, medical camp by Army doctors, conduct of Yoga, physical education classes, sports competitions etc.

Army Public School Bolarum, Army Public School RK Puram and Army Public School Golconda adopted Government Primary School Bolarum, Government Boys High School Trimulgherry and Mandal Parishad Primary School Bandlaguda respectively in consonance with the aim of Vidyanjali Scheme.. The schools undertook outreach programs which include spreading awareness about the Indian Army, addressed by woman officers as a part of the empowerment of women in the Indian Army, conduct of sport events including athletics and kho-kho, drawing competition, essay writing, distribution of stationery. The students also volunteered for community service and interaction with students of government schools for spreading awareness about entry into Sainik Schools.The occasion was also a prelude for Army Day celebrations and continuation of Aazadi ka Amrit Mahotsav.

The occasion was also utilized to enhance awareness levels of the Army Day Parade which was being held for the first time in Southern India at Bengaluru on January 15. The outreach campaign organised as a part of the Vidyanjali scheme will continue throughout the year and will assist in bolstering the quality of education, infrastructure and amenities of the selected schools and showcase the Indian Army’s commitment towards Nation Building.
