Participation Is the Greatest Victory in Sports: Vivek Venkatswamy
Mancherial, January 29:
Labour and Mining Minister Dr. G. Vivek Venkatswamy said that cricket is one of the most popular sports in India, enjoyed from street-level play to the national stage, and that every region has abundant sporting talent. He observed that victory and defeat are a natural part of sports, and that participation itself is the greatest achievement.
The Minister said that sports play a vital role in inculcating team spirit, discipline, and leadership qualities among players. Recalling that cricket tournaments were organised across the State in memory of his father, late Kaka Venkatswamy, he said that during his tenure as President of the Hyderabad Cricket Association (HCA), efforts were made to nurture sporting talent through sponsorship support.
Dr. Vivek Venkatswamy distributed prizes to the winners of the cricket tournament organised in memory of Puranam Ramakrishnaiah at the Kotapalli mandal headquarters in Chennur district on Wednesday. He presented the first prize to the Kotapalli team, which emerged as champions, and the second prize to the Gorlapalli team, the runners-up.
Congratulating former MLC Puranam Satish for successfully organising the tournament, the Minister said it was a matter of pride that two players from the Kotapalli region have already represented the State at the Under-19 cricket level.
He assured that he would take up the issue of obtaining forest clearance required for the construction of a proper cricket stadium in the Kotapalli area by coordinating with the concerned Forest and Revenue officials.
Former MLC Puranam Satish, DCC President Raghunath Reddy, local leaders, players, sports enthusiasts, and others participated in the programme.
