Telangana Emerges as National Model in Skill Development: Minister Vivek Venkatswamy
Lays Foundation Stone for ATC in Mahboobnagar district
Mahabubnagar, June 24: Telangana Government is according top priority to skill development and employment generation, said Labour, Employment, Training, Factories, Mines and Geology Minister Dr. G. Vivek Venkatswamy. He was speaking after laying the foundation stone for the construction of a new Advanced Technology Centre (ATC) at Rangareddygudem in Rajapur Mandal of Mahabubnagar district on Thursday.
The Minister stated that the government has upgraded ITIs that were on the verge of closure into 65 Advanced Technology Centres (ATCs) with an investment of approximately ₹2,200 crore. He further announced that the government has decided to establish 53 new ATCs across the State at a cost of ₹2,000 crore, significantly expanding access to advanced technical education and skill training.
Dr. Vivek Venkatswamy noted that the newly established ATCs are witnessing an impressive 90 percent admission rate, reflecting the growing demand for skill-based education. He attributed this success to the introduction of new and industry-relevant courses and emphasized that students must acquire technical skills alongside academic qualifications to secure quality employment opportunities.
The Minister said the Telangana Overseas Manpower Company Limited (TOMCOM) programme has received an overwhelming response from youth across the State. He noted that the government has allocated ₹90 crore in the budget to provide internationally recognized skill training and enhance overseas employment opportunities.
He also highlighted that scholarships are being provided to students through the Kaka Foundation. Learning foreign languages such as German, Japanese and Greek, he said, would open up greater employment opportunities abroad.
Dr. Vivek Venkatswamy revealed that the government has set a target of facilitating employment opportunities for 1,000 students in Germany by equipping them with both language proficiency and technical skills.
The Minister said Telangana has emerged as a national role model in transforming conventional ITIs into Advanced Technology Centres. He added that the Union Government has appreciated the State’s innovative approach to skill development. A special committee comprising representatives from various states has also been constituted to study Telangana’s model, and he is leading the committee.
Highlighting the demands of a competitive global economy, the Minister said that technical skills, combined with academic qualifications, are essential for enhancing employability and securing high-quality jobs.
Speaking on the occasion, Jadcherla MLA Anirudh Reddy said that the constituency is witnessing rapid progress in the education sector. He stated that institutions such as the Young India Residential School, IIIT and Navodaya Vidyalaya are being established in the constituency.
He said the ₹42-crore Advanced Technology Centre being constructed at Rangareddygudem will provide local students with access to quality technical education and advanced skill training. The MLA reaffirmed his commitment to the development of Jadcherla constituency in line with the promises made to the people during the elections.
